Rainy day – must be another signal to hibernate

Definitely umbrella weather. As I look out my window a mother is wheeling a baby carriage down the street that has a built-in rain cover over it. Rather spiffy. Never seen anything like that before. Tried to grab my camera to get a quick picture but wasn’t fast enough.

Today was supposed to be my second day off but got a call this morning to come in for training for the evening desk shift. Will be doing that tonight and tomorrow night. It’s not “just” the desk shift there is a lot of housekeeping work that goes with it which is okay but a lot of  different duties to remember. My brain is in a whirl.

Can’t think of much else to write very tired - I think once I have been at this job for a couple of weeks  I will have more energy but right now brain and body are on overload.

A very cute little fellow!

Here is a very, very cute picture. I’m not going to tell you what it is – go take a look. It’s a cute picture surprise from Australia.  Cute Picture.

Today was my first day to work two shifts. I am starting to get a hang of things although today I made more mistakes than ever. The mistakes come as I do things on my own rather than just tagging along.

I delivered trays to the rooms today and that was a bigger experience than I thought. First of all when the cook dished up the plates I put them on my little cart and headed out the door. Heck, this isn’t so hard. Unfortunately I forgot to add things like desert, drinks, etc.

I also got lost. The complex is all in a big circle but I couldn’t seem to find my way out of it to get back to the kitchen. Felt like that fellow on the subway that never returned. Finally after what seemed like miles of going past the same doors I made it back. Luckily my trainer had picked up on the fact that I had gone off without the extra things for the trays and she had already gone behind me and delivered the  missing parts.

My special duty for both shifts was dishing up ice-cream. I think I have that down now. Two rows of vanilla, two rows of birthday cake (that’s an ice-cream flavor) two rows of mint chocolate, one row of sugar-free strawberry and one row of raspberry sherbet. Oh, forgot we added a special for the day. Butter pecan. Two rows of that.

There is also another very added bonus to this job. For only two dollars I can buy a meal ticket and get the serving of the day. It is very good, they have great cooks. It also means I don’t have to cook when I come home. Is God looking out for me or what?

The only bummer of the process so far is that I will miss tomorrow’s Al-anon meeting. I didn’t think I was going to have the morning shift but surprise when I clocked in after my first shift there was a little post note with the change. But that’s okay – I am very glad to have a job and it helps me to learn the job faster the more shifts I have.

I will say my legs are tired though. I feel like I have walked miles and miles! Pudge is losing out on that for the first week or so because we take shorter walks. Hopefully when it gets warmer we can go to the park and he can run and run while I walk a little.

Announcing a new site: The Rosary Place

The sky is blue, the sun is shining and it’s the perfect opening for my new website.

The Rosary Place

I started this site several weeks ago and was waiting for the right time to announce it to the world. That time came at 4:30 this morning when I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep.

As most of you know I edited and published five books during my time at the Monastery. The books began with the “Rosary” and it has been the rosary that has seen me through good times and bad in amazing ways. I will continue to work on new books but I will always have a great fondness for Marian inspired first book.

I hope you will visit the site, join the weekly newsletter and tell your friends. This will be my official “Book Store” site for selling the rosary book as well as others past and still to come. The book store won’t be open for a few days – but you can visit now and get a free “mini” book of eleven selected stories from 101 Inspirational Stories of the Rosary. I will be offering special book discount prices only through the newsletter.
